What to See

Tarvit Mansion House

The Hill of Tarvit Mansion House that we see today was rebuilt in 1906 by the architect Sir Robert Lorimer for a Dundee industrialist. The house was originally built for Sir William Bruce - he wanted to move out of Scotstarvit tower (on the other side of the A916 Cupar : Leven road).

It contains a wonderful collection of furniture and works of art. The house is in the care of the National Trust for Scotland, and is open to the public during the summer, and the extensive gardens are also open all year round. Scotstarvit Tower is also open to visitors.

Tarvit Hill itself overlooks Cupar and the climb from the Mansion House to the top of the hill will be rewarded with a fine vista across the town, the Howe of Fife, west towards St Andrews and south towards the Firth of Forth. To the north, Dundee can be seen and you can see the sun glint off the sea and beach at Tentsmuir.
